According to a recent research project conducted by Duette, an interior specialist, us Brits are particularly picky when it comes to paying thousands for ‘extras’ when purchasing a property. Here is our summary of the key areas which can add value:
Schools - the average UK resident is willing to spend an additional £8,000 to ensure their children live close to the best-rated schools.
Somewhere to park a car - parking is close to everyone’s hearts when property hunting with a driveway or garage adding £4500 to the value of a property.
It’s all about the garden - One of the areas subject to the most requests is the garden, and a south-facing one could add an additional £5,000. Vegetable patch? This little addition can be worth up to an additional £400.
Technology – it seems a ‘Smart Home’ is up there on the wish list for buyers. As technology continues to evolve some would pay on average £3,500 for smart home features - such as lighting and heating you can control from your phone.
Good Neighbours - finally, if you have nice neighbours, don't hesitate to advertise it. People would be willing to pay £2,000 for some occasional friendly chit-chat.
If you’re lucky enough to have some of the following features, this is what they could be worth in the event of a property sale:
- Swimming pool - £10,000
- Bar in the garden - £6,500
- Conservatory - £5 – 10,000
- Room for extending - £4,500
- A second reception room - £3,000
- Solar panels - £1,500
- Open fire - £1,000
- Jacuzzi bath - £1,000
